Are you a secret feminist?

Excellent coverage on feminism in Stylist magazine this morning – good on them.

The ad agencies attempts to rebrand feminism weren’t so impressive though – as I wrote to Stylist:

What struck me about this feature was how little the ad agencies seem to understand feminism! The idea that the angry and intellectual aspects of feminism should be downplayed and its ‘sexy’ side emphasised (Beattie McGuiness Bungay) seem like anthitheses to what feminism is about. Why should women still have to be sexy to be taken seriously?
Feminism can be fun and empowering, but it’s also angry – and this isn’t a bad, or threatening thing. Yet still the idea of women being angry apparently ‘puts people off’.

Anger is a vital part of feminist activism: it can be creative, empowering and community building.

There’s also an event tonight in central run by Progressive Women on the the same secret feminist topic – more here.
